NFL Preseason Week 3 Betting: Carolina Panthers vs. New York Jets

The Carolina Panthers and New York Jets will square off Sunday night at MetLife Stadium. Both teams are looking to improve upon their seasons of a year ago, which came up short from the postseason. The Panthers went 6-10 out of the NFC South, while the Jets finished 8-8. The Panthers are 1-1 in the pre-season, while the Jets have fallen in both their early games.

The Carolina Panthers are looking for another great season from their quarterback Cam Newton. In his rookie season, Newton threw for over 4,000 yards and 21 touchdowns. Carolina was the third best rushing team, led by Newton and his combination of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Carolina hopes to improve upon a defense that allowed teams to average nearly 380 yards per game. The Panthers open their regular season on September 9th at divisional foe Tampa Bay.

The New York Jets are off to a slow start. While getting all the media attention this pre-season, their performance on the field has got to have Rex Ryan a bit worried. New York has scored just 9 points in losses to the Bengals and the Giants. The Jets are trying out the two quarterback approach with Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow. Last season, New York ranked in the bottom half in both passing and rushing offense. New York opens the 2012 regular season on September 9th against the Bills in an AFC East tilt.

New York Jets -3

The Jets need to get back on track. This week, we feel they will do just that. Look for Sanchez and Tebow to split time again, with both of them being much more effective than their previous two games.

Prediction: New York Jets 31-24

The Jets are favorites in this game over Carolina. We do not feel Newton will play a ton of time in this game, which favors the Jets. We are going to take New York to cover the field goal spread.

NFL Preseason Week 3 Betting: Houston Texans vs. New Orleans Saints

The Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints will meet in week three of the pre-season on Saturday. Both the Texans and Saints made the playoffs a season ago. Houston won the AFC South, and are once again favorites this season. New Orleans went 13-3 and won the NFC South. Despite losing their head coach, and a couple key players – the Saints are the favorites over Atlanta, Carolina and Tampa Bay. The Texans are 2-0 in pre-season, while the Saints are 1-2.

For Houston, Gary Kubiak is excited to get his quarterback Matt Schaub back and healthy. Now for Arian Foster, if he stays healthy, Houston knows they have a dynamite offense. The Texans beat Carolina on the road in week 1 of the pre-season, and last week beat San Francisco. A season ago, Houston ranked as the third best defense against the pass, and fourth against the run. The Texans open the 2012 season on September 9th at home against the Miami Dolphins.

For New Orleans, they are playing their fourth pre-season game, following their Hall of Fame game to start the season. The Saints beat Arizona in the opener, but since then have lost to New England and Jacksonville. New Orleans signed Drew Brees over the off-season, which solidifies their top ranked offense. Brees threw for over 5,400 yards a season ago, and 46 touchdowns. New Orleans opens the season on September 9th at home with Washington.

Odds and Sports Betting Line

Houston Texans +3

New Orleans Saints -3

Free Prediction

This should be a pretty entertaining game. We expect many of the starters to get a bunch of time, as both teams prepare for their season opener. In the end, we expect the later groups of defenses to make the difference in the game. The Houston Texans have a better defense all around, which will help them with the win.

Prediction: Houston Texans 20-17

Free Pick:

It’s tough to pick against Drew Brees, but with it being a pre-season game, we know he cannot control the outcome completely. Look for Brees to play well, but then the Saints struggle when the starting group comes out. We are picking the Houston Texans to cover the 3 point spread, as underdogs.

Pick: Houston Texans +3

NFL Preseason Week 3 Betting: Green Bay Packers vs. Cincinnati Bengals

In the third week of the pre-season, the Green Bay Packers will take on the Cincinnati Bengals. Both teams made the postseason a season ago, with the Packers winning the NFC North, and Cincinnati slid in as a wildcard team. In the pre-season, the Packers come in with an 0-2 record, while the Cincinnati Bengals have won both of their games early in August.

The Bengals beat the Jets in week one of the pre-season, and then downed the Atlanta Falcons last week. Cincinnati’s defense has been solid in the pre-season, as they have allowed just 25 points in two games. Last season, the Bengals were led by the rookie combination of Andy Dalton and A.J. Green. The combination is back this season, and look to improve they nearly 320 yards per game. The Bengals open the regular season on Monday Night Football at Baltimore.

For Green Bay, they are not concerned about their pre-season record. The Packers lost to San Diego in week one, and then the Browns scored 35 points last week. Green Bay hosts Kansas City in their pre-season finale on August 30th. The Packers are led by Aaron Rodgers, who tossed for over 307 yards per game a season ago. Green Bay is looking to improve their secondary defense, a unit that gave up a league high 299.8 yards per game last season. The Packers start the regular season September 9th against San Francisco.
